Memories of Burlington's Barge Canal Project In-Person
Memories of Burlington's Barge Canal
Built in the late 1860s to serve Burlington’s lumber industry, these days the Pine Street Barge Canal is best known as a rewilding EPA Superfund site. Despite contamination from over a century of industrial activity in and around the barge canal, neighborhood residents used it as a place for recreation throughout the 20th century. Do you have any memories or family stories of swimming or playing on the Barge Canal property? In partnership with the Fletcher Free Library and Burlington City Arts, we invite you to record your barge canal stories with us at the Fletcher Free Library on November 4th and 18th from 10am-12pm for the Vermont Folklife Archive. Register here: Memories of Burlington’s Barge Canal.
