Food for Talk: Baking Club

Food for Talk: Baking Club In-Person

FFL's newest cookbook club is all about baking.  This month we will be working from two baking books by giants in the field - The Baking Bible by Rose Levy Beranbaum  and Sift by Nicola Lamb

Baker, Anna Mays, will demonstrate the best technique for frosting a cake.  After testing bakes from both books, we will discuss what worked well and what didn't.

About the cookbooks:

The Baking Bible by Rose Levy Beranbaum

Legendary baker Rose Levy Beranbaum is back with her most extensive “bible” yet. With all-new recipes for the best cakes, pies, tarts, cookies, candies, pastries, breads, and more, this magnum opus draws from Rose’s passion and expertise in every category of baking. As is to be expected from the woman who’s been called “the most meticulous cook who ever lived,” each sumptuous recipe is truly foolproof—with detail-oriented instructions that eliminate guesswork, “plan-aheads,” ingenious tips, and highlights for success.

Sift by Nicola Lamb

Sift begins with the foundational ingredients that underpin great bakes—flour, sugar, eggs, fat—before delving into the techniques that bring recipes to life: texture, color, how things rise, and a technical overview. 100 tested, tried, and true recipes follow and are organized by difficulty and time commitment, ranging from easy 30-minute cakes to spectacular showstoppers.
